The Bill Monroe Music Park in Bean Blossom, Indiana is a beautiful place to enjoy music, and it's home to the the oldest continuous annual bluegrass festival in the world. But during the middle weekend in September each year, it's the home of the Bean Blossom Blues Fest. There's a grassy hill gently sloping down to the stage. Halfway up the hill there's some shade trees standing like a loyal, eternal audience. There's a peace in the park that can't be found anywhere else in the world. If I listen and really concentrate, I think I can hear the sound of Bill Monroe's mandolin floating on the breeze as it moves through the park. I'm sure Bill's spirit is still dancing around the place trying to get in on some jams. And I wonder what he thinks about us putting on a BLUES fest in his BLUEGRASS park. We may never know, but one thing is for sure - We're going to honor his legacy by always respecting the park and the music for which it stands! |
